Looking back in Time
The June 21, 1971, Time magazine cover story was titled "Jesus Revolution," which focused on the Jesus Movement, a widespread religious revival among young people in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The article described how this movement was bringing a new, more relevant Christianity to a generation often perceived as disaffected by mainstream society. It highlighted the movement's rapid growth across the US, with Christian coffeehouses, communal living, and evangelism on the streets.
- Cover: The cover featured a psychedelic Pop Art image of Jesus.
- Content: The article described the Jesus Movement as a "last great awakening". It detailed the movement's impact, which included artists like Johnny Cash, Paul Stookey, and Pat Boone, and its spread through cities like Los Angeles, New York, and others in the South.
- Themes: The article noted how young people were adopting a more fundamentalist approach to Christianity, often described as "Jesus Freaks," and were actively evangelizing on city streets.
- Impact: The cover story brought significant mainstream attention to the movement, which was seen as a major religious shift that was spreading rapidly across the country.
- Significance: The article was seen as a significant moment for the movement, bringing it national recognition after Time's earlier cover April 8 1966 "Is God Dead".

Below are the 77 generations of Jesus back to Adam and God. "Seven" in Hebrew is the word to "swear", make an oath, to fix a boundary. The counting of those generations ended in him. And thus in 1 Corinthians 15:45-47 Jesus is named as the "last Adam" on earth and the "second Man" from Heaven. As he then breathed on the disciples to welcome the Holy Spirit, so, until the day he returns, those words enable us to receive faith, to welcome the Holy Spirit, to become part of His Family, as well.
Hallelujah.

- Jesse born possibly some time around 1125 BC
- Obed his birth to a young mother, Ruth — and definitely an aged father, Boaz, possibly around 1245 BC — was much celebrated.
- Boaz son of Rahab, born possibly some time around 1405 BC, and marries Ruth as an aged man a bit like Abraham who married Keturah as an aged man and had 6 more children to her. Genesis 25:1-2
- Salmon marries Rahab, believed to be the harlot, probably a young harlot, who had rescued the spies sent by Joshua to Jericho in 1465 BC
- Nahshon
- Amminadab
The early Codex Sinaiticus script used in the NLT and the ESV and some other modern translations includes an additional name Admin between Aram (which it renames as Arni) and Amminadab. If it's not a typo, if Admin was a real character, he still makes Jesus the 77th generation but this list needs to start with Adam (instead of God) as generation 1. That's fine, Jesus as we know is both son of man and son of God.
- Aram
- Hezron
Hezron was born around 1721 BC and went into Egypt (Jacob's great-grandson).

Pharez was born around 1734 BC (Jacob's grandson).

- Cainan
Cainan is not mentioned in Genesis, although he must have been part of the public records. According to the Book of Jubilees, he revived the condemned arts of astrology and was presumably cast out. His son Salah was raised by his grandfather Arphaxad who was only 35 at the time of Salah's birth. See Ruth 4:17, where Obed is called the son of Naomi though he was really her grandson, her sons having previously died.

Genealogy Abraham to Christ
His Royal Lineage
Matthew 1:1-17
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham, Father of Israel — the promised nation
- Abraham
- Isaac
- Jacob
- Judah and his brothers
- Pharez and Zerah of Tamar
- Hezron
- Aram
- Amminadab
- Nahshon
- Salmon
- Boaz of Rahab — Boaz marries Ruth, a Moabitess, tenth generation from Abraham and his brother-in-law/nephew Lot who had fathered Moab unknowingly through his daughter. Note the prohibition in Deuteronomy 23:2-3
- Obed of Ruth
- Jesse
- David the king
Solomon, King of Israel — the visible nation
- Solomon of her who had been the wife of Uriah — Bathsheba's name is not mentioned here
- Rehoboam
- Abijah
- Asa
- Jehoshaphat
- Jehoram, whom Jehoshaphat causes to marry Athaliah, daughter of Ahab and Jezebel — his son Ahaziah, grandson Joash and great-grandson Amaziah apparently have ungodly ends, distant from God, and are neither mentioned nor counted in this genealogy
- Uzziah
- Jotham
- Ahaz
- Hezekiah
- Manasseh
- Amon
- Josiah
- Jehoiachin — strictly speaking he was Josiah's grandson, but Josiah's son Jehoiakim has no mention — it was the time Israel was captured and taken to the kingdom of Babylon — Jehoiakim's younger brother Jehoahaz who took the throne in Israel died in captivity in Egypt — Jehoiakim died in Jerusalem — then Jehoiakim's son Jehoiachin and his brothers are taken prisoners into Babylon
And after the Jews were brought to Babylon we next see
Jehoiachin, King of Israel (in captivity but also renewed, born again) — the somewhat invisible nation
- Jehoiachin — with renewal coming at the end of the 37th year of his captivity — see 2 Kings 25:27-30
- Shealtiel, his heir (see note above)
- Zerubbabel, Shealtiel's nephew
- Abiud
- Eliakim
- Azor
- Sadoc
- Achim
- Eliud
- Eleazar
- Matthan
- Jacob
- Joseph the husband of Mary
- Jesus, his adopted son, who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations
